The art of restoration

A rare example of an 8 Day Longcase from Robert Apps, a unique local maker from Battle, ca. 1780.

A rare example of an 8 Day Longcase from Robert Apps, a unique local maker from Battle, ca. 1780. I did a full overhaul of the movement.

I'm using a jeweller saw to cut out a balance wheel for an early 17th century lantern clock

A couple of teeth were bent on the original wheel. I was able to just replace those teeth.

Instead of replacing a whole wheel with a brand new one when a couple of teeth were bend, I was able to create new teeth. This way I could keep the authenticity as much as possible. I could have refinished the wheel and blended in the repair so it can't be seen, but I decided to show the repair as part of the history of the clock and to keep the original patina.

I resilvered the dial and replaced the missing hands 16 years ago and it still looks good

This is my own personal clock, which I restored 16 years ago. I resilvered the dial and replaced the missing hands. After all these years it still looks good.
